RUSTON, La. --Aloha Rainbow Wahine Softball fans!

WEDNESDAY April 13, 2011

WOW! What a travel day it has been! We pulled away from the Lower Campus Athletic Complex around 4:45pm... yesterday to catch a 6:45pm flight out of Honolulu. We landed in Dallas, Texas this morning around 7am and had to take another flight into Shreveport, Louisiana that landed around 10:30am. Then we had to drive about an hour and a half into Ruston, where Louisiana Tech is located. It didn't end there!

Unfortunately, the hotel we were supposed to be staying at lost our reservations so we had to camp out in the lobby for two hours while they moved their other guests around to accommodate our travel party. Most of us took this opportunity to nap on the floor or the couches in the lobby because we were seriously jet-lagged! at 4pm we had a short hitting and running practice to get our blood flowing and then went to a pizza place for dinner. We concluded the day with a trip to the supermarket and then we were all in bed around 8pm.

THURSDAY April 14, 2011

We all woke up this morning for practice at 10am which went really well! Everyone had caught up on their sleep and we were looking good on defense and during hitting! We were all started to get more and more excited for the games this weekend. Afterwards, we went back to the hotel and had a study hall for about an hour and a half. It is getting to be crunch time now that finals are just looming around the corner. After study hall we left for the mall in Monroe, about thirty minutes away. After walking around for two hours, we reconvened to eat dinner as a team again and then drove back to the hotel. Then we hit the hay early to prepare for game day!

FRIDAY April 15, 2011

What a great start to the series! This morning we went to the field early to have a hitting session that lasted about an hour and get our swings going. Afterwards we ate lunch and had another study hall before we started getting ready for the game. There was a huge storm last night with thunder and lightning and we were skeptical as to how the field would be looking, but luckily just the outer rims of the outfield were still damp. During warm-ups the anticipation was growing and everyone was anxious to get into the game. We knew that their pitcher, Meghan Krieg, would be the one thing standing in our way to be successful. We jumped on them fast, scoring three in the first inning without a hit, exposing the weaknesses of their defense.

The rest of the game went successfully, with Stephanie only giving up one hit in the first inning. Jenna had an RBI in the third inning with a single to right field that put us up four to nothing. Then she sealed the deal with a two-run blast over the left field fence in the top of the sixth. Overall, the team energy was great and we felt really good about the way we played. Tomorrow we have to come back strong and put away the double header like we know how so we can finish the weekend on top. I can't believe its already the middle of April, Coach Bob is always right when he tells us that once the season starts, it's over! We're coming out hard and strong tomorrow! Thank you for the continued support! GO BOWS!
