"New season begins"

By Kevin Kacatin
July 15, 2011

HONOLULU, Hawaii --Aloha Rainbow Wahine Softball fans!

We have sent out our renewal information to our current 76 members for their 2012 season membership. If your contact information has changed since you signed up for your 2011 membership, please contact us at accounts@nawahine.com.

For those that submitted their membership application AFTER April 1st, 2011, your membership will count towards the 2012 season. All current members will have until March 31st 2012 to renew for the 2012 season, any applications received after this date will count for the 2013 year.

In addition to our renewals, we are also accepting NEW applications for the 2012 season! Please download our application right here on our website off of our main page under "APPLICATION FORM".

Current members will also find a renewal application form and an order form for our exclusive Under Armour polo shirts for those that want to order additional shirts or for those that missed out during the season. A portion of the proceeds from the polo shirts will go to the Rainbow Wahine Softball program. The Na Wahine Softball Booster Club sold over 35 polo shirts to our members in 2011 and we look to increase that for this season. The design remains the same.

In addition to the funds received through your membership dues, the Na Wahine Softball Booster Club raised over $4,000.00 in outright donations for the 2011 season!!! All of this wouldn't have been possible without the "kokua" of the fans of the Rainbow Wahine Softball program! Your donations and dues continue to help provide supplemental financial support for our student-athletes and coaches in the form of post-game meals, National Fastpitch Coaches Association fees for the professional development of our coaches, and other financial needs not covered by the annual softball budget. The Na Wahine Softball Booster Club is a non-profit entity in association with Ahahui Koa Anuenue and the UH Foundation.

Our BIGGEST area of focus for the rest of the 2011 calendar year will be ensuring funding to send our coaching staff to the 2011 National Fastpitch Coaches Association National Convention in December. This convention serves as a valuable opportunity for our coaching staff to meet and exchange ideas with other coaches across the country. Seminars and exhibitions that introduce new and un-explored coaching techniques and tools are also brought to light at these conventions. Unfortunately, the Rainbow Wahine Softball coaching staff has not been able to attend these conventions on a regular basis and recently missed out on the 2010 convention. The Na Wahine Softball Booster Club hopes to change all that!!!

For 2012, the Na Wahine Softball Booster Club also aims to be able to provide financial support for summer school tuition for our student-athletes going forward. The value of a quality education does not come in second to any accomplishment on the softball field. Our student-athletes are students before anything else and the Na Wahine Softball Booster Club looks to also further contribute to the academic success of our student-athletes by raising enough funds to accommodate any shortage of summer school tuition.

The Na Wahine Softball Booster Club could not exist without the "kokua" of our members. Your continued passion to support the student-athletes of the Rainbow Wahine Softball Program is the very foundation of all the success this program has enjoyed over the years!

Mahalo!!!

"Pupukahi i holomua!" - UNITE TO MOVE FORWARD!

Compliance FAQ

Because of the re-newed effort of the NCAA in enforcing their compliance rules it means that the boosters need to be aware of how they can interact with prospects, recruits or student-athletes. A good general rule is that if something is not available to all students an only to a student-athlete it is not allowed. Below are some general questions:

1. At what point is a prospect considered a student-athlete?

"The day they start pre-season practice or first day of school(whichever comes first."

2. How can you help recruit prospects?

"Give the name to the coach, you can not have direct contact with any prospect."

3. If you already have a relationship with a prospect, can you continue that contact even though UH is heavily recruiting them?

"You can continue contact only if you don't take advantage of it for recruiting purposes."

4. Under what circumstances can you give a prospect/student-athlete a job?

"This may be possible but you would need to contact UH Compliance first."

5. If I go on the road with the team, can I pick up the bill at a restaurant for the team student-athlete?

"No, but if you lived in the area you are permitted to invite the team to your residence for a meal."

We will have more FAQ in our next newsletter, but if you have any question regarding NCAA compliance PLEASE ask, if you noticed more and more schools are getting into trouble for NCAA violations, so we need to be extra careful in this area.

Na Wahine Softball Booster Club will soon be able to accept membership applications ONLINE. We will make an official announcement soon as to when this will begin. Hopefully within the next two weeks at the longest. HOPEFULLY. In the meantime, our paper applications can be downloaded in this link under "APPLICATION FORM".
